There is often a misconception about circuit training. People often think that this kind of training is very hard and only suitable for those who are at an advanced level of fitness.
Exactly what is circuit training? Well although circuit training is most of the time practiced by people with more advanced fitness levels it can be very easily adapted to all levels of fitness from beginners to advanced.
Benefits from circuit training are enormous as the intensity of the circuit can be relatively high with shorter rest periods. This way you can perform a great variety of exercises in a short time and get an excellent full body workout which includes aerobic and strength moves, as well as specifics like Crossfit. This is not all. Due to the intensity and the shorter rest periods you activate the body’s fat burning mechanism. The result is faster and greater weight loss/fat loss than other more conventional exercise forms like aerobics and weight training.
Aerobic classes, although effective and recommended for weight loss and cardiovascular health, demand a higher investment in time, usually around 1h and can often become a bit monotonous.
Circuits on the other hand can be very interesting since you can incorporate almost anything you like varying from strength moves to jumps, sprints, rope skipping and weight training. This is probably one of the most effective ways to lose fat and change your physique fast.
If you feel that you are on a plateau right now and are not achieving the changes you want or your fat percentage is not going down then may be it is time to either incorporate circuits in your current training or just opt for a couple of circuit training sessions per week to fire up your metabolic rate and push those muscles harder.
With circuit training the results are easier to measure and visible to everyone around you. Don't worry if you are beginner or advanced exerciser, young or older circuits are definitely for everybody.
Circuits usually include jumps like jumping jacks, vertical jumps like jump squats, shuttle runs etc. Incorporate these along with weight training exercises and you will have a killer workout that will melt body fat and build solid slick muscle.
Whilst it is very important to incorporate regular circuits, it's also essential to change your training program regularly.
